A couple of weeks ago I went on a trip to New York to visit my daughters who live there. It had been just over a year since I was there last.
My hubby had dropped me at the Portland airport for my flight through Delta Airlines. After I made my way through the security check point, I made a quick stop at the ladies room before heading over to the gate to my flight.
When I arrived at gate D11 for my flight, I noticed that there were no passengers seated waiting for the flight. The people at the gate saw me and asked me if I was on this flight. After saying yes, they told me that everyone had boarded already. Wow, how weird that felt! I had no idea I was running late. It felt like I had been on time and had gotten to the airport in plenty of time. A gate attendant quickly got me checked in and I rushed to board the plane.
It was odd to board the plane when everyone was already seated and looking right at me as I walked to my seat. After I sat down, I reached for my phone and realized it was not in my pockets where I thought it should be. A quick search and my phone did not turn up. A wave of panic came over me as I realized I had lost it or it was stolen out of my pocket. I flagged down one of the Flight Attendants and told her that I thought I lost my phone in the airport somewhere. She offered to call my phone from hers. So she called my number and a man answered! She handed the phone over to me so I could talk to the man. He told me he was at gate D1 and I told him where I was. He said he couldn’t bring it down to me. He said he would get a Delta Agent to run it down to me and then hung up.
The Flight Attendant told me that we had ten minutes before take off and I should run down to meet him and get it. So I started to do just that. She explained what was going on to the other Flight Attendants. When I came to the gate attendants, one of them told me I couldn’t leave. She told me not to worry because a Delta agent called and was going to bring the phone down. She asked me to get back on the plane and they would bring it to me.
I returned to the plane and had barely gotten reseated when one of the Flight Attendants at the front of the plane waved my phone in the air and said she had my phone!
A passenger next to me said, “This is your lucky day”. I would have to agree, as God was watching over me!
I told the first Flight Attendant that she was my hero that day. I can’t even image what it could have been if she hadn’t suggested calling my phone. I will probably never know if I dropped the phone, left if in the bathroom or at the security check point. But it is nice to know that there are honest people out there.
This got me thinking about how bad I would have felt flying to New York without my phone. I would feel unsafe and cut off from communication with my husband and daughters. We have become very dependent on our cell phones!
Have you ever lost your cell phone? Are you dependent on yours? I’d love to hear your comments!

That’s awesome you got your phone back. Just as an FYI, it should be “LOSING’ my phone, not “LOOSING’ my phone which insinuates that your phone is loose, as in not tight or not fitted. But still, it’s awesome that you got your phone back!
Thanks it’s fixed! I knew I should have looked at this again in the morning before posting!
